Wendy’s speech to the League of Women Voters

I want to again thank the League of Women Voters for organizing this event and providing me with an opportunity to talk with the voters of Laramie County.

For months now I’ve been referring to the campaign as the longest job interview I’ve ever had.  As an interviewee my job is to convince you, the voters, that I am the best person for the job.  I am confident this is the case.

I have the experience, energy and education to serve you in this position of public trust.  I have 20 years of experience as a legal professional, over 10 of those years as a court administrator.  I’ve worked, raised a family, and pursued an education.  I have an associate’s degree in Paralegal studies, a bachelor’s degree from UW and I am pursuing a master’s in public administration.  The combination of my experience and education as a court administrator and as a paralegal are an ideal background for this office.

This is the first time in 33 years the voters have had a real opportunity to hire someone new for this office.  After over three decades of the same administration, a new set of eyes and a fresh approach to the operations of the office will benefit everyone concerned.  My education, depth of work experience and the ability to bring that fresh set of eyes to the office clearly sets me apart from the other candidate.

The Clerk’s office will be implementing a new case managements system in the next two years.  I have experience with a project of this nature, having designed and implemented a case management system for the State Board of Equalization.  If you hire me I will be able contribute my experience toward completion of this project.

I am also prepared to review and evaluate the budgets for the Clerk’s office.  I’m fiscally conservative and will put your public funds to the best possible use, while ensuring all statutory requirements of the office are met.

I will maintain an open door policy, and handle your concerns personally.   I take the title of public servant seriously in my current position and I will continue to do so as Clerk of the District Court.  It is my goal that every customer of the clerk’s office will walk away feeling the office has been courteous, respectful and helpful.

Let me say again, I have the experience, energy and education to serve you as the next Clerk of District Court.  I’ve worked very hard the last few months to earn your votes, I assure you I’ll work even harder for you if you hire me.  I need your vote on November 2.

Thank you.

Wendy Soto —

First let me say I’m grateful for every opportunity to visit with the voters of Laramie County and so I want to thank the League of Women Voters for organizing this event.

I’m running for this office because I have the experience, energy and education to serve the voters of Laramie County in this position of public trust.  My experience is diverse and varied, having 20 years of experience as a paralegal and over 10 years as a court administrator.  My energy level is high.  I’ve worked, raised a family, and pursued an education in the last 23 years.  I have an associate’s degree in Paralegal studies, a bachelor’s degree from UW and I am pursuing a master’s in public administration.  The combination of my experience and education as a court administrator and as a paralegal are an ideal background for this office.

There are several issues I will address if I’m elected.  The most significant issue is the new case management system which is coming to the Clerk’s office.  I have experience with a project of this nature, having designed and implemented a case management system for the State Board of Equalization.  I know there are a number of capable public servants working on this project for the District Court, and if you elect me I will be able to support them and contribute my experience toward completion of this project.

I am also prepared to review and evaluate the budgets for the Clerk’s office.  It is vital that public funds be put to the best possible use, while the clerk’s office meets all its statutory requirements.

As an elected official I will maintain an open door policy.  I will encourage input from all stakeholders in the Clerk’s office, including the public, judges, attorneys, other county officials, and of course the dedicated public servants who work at the Clerk’s office.  A new set of eyes and a fresh approach to the operations of the office will benefit everyone concerned.  The ability to bring that fresh set of eyes to the office is one of the things that sets me apart from the other candidates.

In keeping with an open door policy, I will handle your concerns personally.   I take the title of public servant seriously in my current position and I will continue to do so as Clerk of the District Court.  It is my goal that every customer of the clerk’s office will walk away feeling the office has been courteous, respectful and helpful.

In order to accomplish these goals I need your vote.  I look forward to visiting with you during the breaks arranged by the League of Women Voters.

Thank you.
